Groups inquiring about Homegroup.Online typically receive the following information from G.S.O., “Many groups use Homegroup.Online and they are not violating any traditions by doing so.”
Per the A.A. Service Manual: GSO, Areas, and Districts have “friendly relations” and “mutual cooperation” with the service offices (Central/Intergroup Offices) that members and groups choose to support.
Is Homegroup.Online…
- Legitimate?
- An actual Central Office?
- Recognized by AA & GSO?
Many treasurers and groups have posed these questions to their local office, district, area, and directly to GSO.
The short answer is: YES.
Individuals, from local offices on up to the GSO, may be unaware of the “mutual cooperation” that exists between GSO, OIAA, IGCO’s and Homegroup.Online. Depending on the specific individual that you ask, the answer may or may not be accurate.
HGOL has witnessed phone volunteers at GSO, an Area Delagate, and local Office Managers provide inaccurate information regarding Homegroup.Online.
We suggest researching several avenues and contacting several individuals to confirm the legitimacy and recognition of Homegroup.Online Central Office.
The following excerpt is from The A.A. Service Manual at aa.org
“… general service committees and intergroup/central offices perform different functions… These two autonomous but vital service structures coexist in many areas. All of A.A. benefits when intergroup/central offices and general service work together in mutual cooperation.”

Is Homegroup.Online…
- Approved by AA & GSO?
- Affiliated with AA & GSO?
- Endorsed by AA & GSO?
These questions have contextual words and are typically asked by individuals that are not yet familiar with the organizational structure of our fellowship.
The short answer is:
NO Central Office or Intergroup is.
Every A.A. area, district, office, group, or member is a separate entity and NOT approved, affiliated, endorsed, sanctioned, recommended, or otherwise directly connected with one another nor with GSO.
G.S.O. does not endorse or oppose, aprove or deny, any A.A. entity, from state Areas to Central Offices, and Members themselves. A.A. entities have a “mutual cooperation” relationship with each other that benefits A.A. as a whole.
The following excerpt is from The A.A. Service Manual at aa.org
“…What is the relationship between A.A.W.S. and my local intergroup/central office? The two entities are autonomous. Intergroup/central offices come into being as the result of a partnership among groups to carry out certain functions common to all the groups and are maintained, supervised and supported by these groups. Friendly relations and a spirit of collaboration between G.S.O. and local intergroup/central offices are important to our shared purpose of carrying the A.A. message to the alcoholic who still suffers.”
